The Assam initiative
It has long been felt by the trustees of Kri Foundation that the North East has not received the recognition this multi cultural land deserves. Identity, nationalism, living art forms, and rare natural and cultural heritage, both of which are at risk due to shortsighted policies, compelled Kri Foundation to take up study and promotion of the North eastern region. Two Cultural Festivals have already been organized- in collaboration with Impressario India, India Habitat Centre and India International Centre. These showcases included the traditional Ankia Bhaona- the composite theatre form of the Vaishnavite monks, and also the Bhakti saturated Sattriya dance, which emerged from this theatre form. Sattriya is the newest classical dance in the pantheon, having got its recognition as a classical dance only in the millennium year.
